Fun in the Sun

The weather is starting to get very warm. It is time to show some skin or suffer tremendously if you do not shed a few of layers of clothing and live in the south like I do. This is the fun time of year! I'm looking forward to the barbecues and Sunday brunches with the ladies. The local swimming pool has even opened in my neighborhood! Since developing Vitiligo, I am always doubtful that I'll get in a swimsuit at the beginning of the summer season. However, before the season is over, I've made it to the water.

Most of my girlfriends are concerned about their weight. Ladies, take your time and do your research because there is a swimsuit to camouflage almost any figure-flaw. However, my Vitiligo family knows all too well that there is no suit to really camouflage your Vitiligo. When I'm having fun, my Vitiligo is "body art". If I allow myself to get negative, my Vitiligo refers to my "spots". I have reached the point, where I just get out there and flaunt my "body art". I want my suit to compliment my figure and my "body art'. It takes time to get to the "body art" image by yourself. The best advice I have for those who haven't quite reached the "body-art" self-image is to surround yourself with people who love you. You will spend so much time laughing with your friends that you won't have time to worry about what other people are thinking. So, lean on your network of family and friends for that support until you get there.

I always thank my mother for my confidence. That is such a valuable commodity when you live in a world where women are taught to be competitive and jealous instead of supportive and encouraging. I choose to be supportive and encouraging.  To the mothers, I pray that you will make the same choice about what to teach your girls and in this month of May, I wish you Happy Mother's Day.

Don't forget your sexy nick-name for your flaw.  I've been covered up all winter. It is time to re-introduce "Miss Vanilla, Chocolate Swirl" to the masses. Maybe I will see you at the pool or beach!

Hey Mosaic, I usually dread the hot, humid summers, but your "Fun in the Sun" reminds me of what is good about summer. You are such an inspiration. Thanks for that. -p.s. You look great in your swimsuit.
