The Holidays

The best part of the holiday season for me is spending time with my family. I am no scrooge, but I detest holiday shopping. However, when I find the perfect gift and see the joy that it brings my loved one, the hassle of shopping is worth it (well, almost). I much rather the focus be on the act of unselfishness instead of the gift. I do realize that not everyone understands my attempt to depart from the commercial aspect of the holiday, so I do buy some gifts. Even then, it is a struggle to get them to focus on the thought and not the price.

With gifts or not, I urge you to value every moment with loved ones. Do not sleep-walk through life. Make memories and use the beautiful memories as leverage to push you through the difficult times. This holiday is a perfect opportunity to start. Don't max out your credit cards this season, max out your love. That small seemingly insignificant hug on Christmas day will seem so much larger when you are missing that person later. For my Vitiligo family, it's winter. Let's cover up and worry about summer when it gets here.

Happy Holidays...

Good post. There are no better words. We have made the decision that we are going to spend less for Christmas, because we don't want to lose focus on what is really important.
